The International Myeloma Society's 17th International Myeloma Workshop had record-breaking attendance with more than 3,100 attendees from 61 countries for a successful four days of inspiring education, late-breaking research and spirited discussions with old friends and new.

Day one of the 17th IMW presented a truly Bostonian welcome for all attendees with a unique procession and remarks by Boston Mayor, Martin Walsh, who shared his personal experience with childhood cancer. Thursday also featured discussions from world-renowned faculty on the treatment of myeloma followed by the evening's Opening Ceremonies at the Boston Museum of Science, which showcased the research of the 40 IMS 17th IMW Young Investigator Abstract Award recipients.

Days two and three featured a packed schedule of educational opportunities including 22 early morning educational sessions, a lunchtime lecture series tailored to fellows, two Hot Topics in Myeloma plenary sessions, and engaging keynote presentations from myeloma leaders from around the globe.

Friday and Saturday also featured nearly 600 oral and poster abstract presentations, the 4th Nursing Symposium held on Friday which provided a host of educational sessions as well as oral and poster abstracts showcasing the latest in nursing research, and an inspiring lectureship by Dr. Giampaolo Merlini, recipient of the IMS Jan Gosta Waldenström Award.

Saturday evening of the 17th International Myeloma Workshop celebrated the recipients of the International Myeloma Society's Waldenström, Bart Barlogie and Ken Anderson Awards. Dr. Nikhil Munshi was also installed as the President of the International Myeloma Society during the Closing Ceremonies at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts where he received the gavel from immediate past president, Dr. Jesus San Miguel.

Sunday featured late-breaking abstract presentations that showcased the most recent groundbreaking research on multiple myeloma, a spirited Great Debates session led by moderators and referees, Drs. Maria-Victoria Mateos and Vincent Rajkumar, and presentations on clinical trials in progress around the world.
